SHEYTOONS were born in the summer of 2010 when Ramin Karimloo called up
old friend Hadley Fraser and invited him to come and work on some songs.
Serious record label interest, due to his habitual and unsurpassed
mask-wearing, had lead Ramin to declare he could write music. Quietly
confident that his declaration was true he felt the need however to seek
support from long-time musical journeyman and Show Closer Par
Excellence, Hadley. As it transpired the two worked well together, and
quickly a rhythm to the writing and a sound for the music emerged.
Leaving behind their day jobs and instead following a new musical route,
the result is SHEYTOONS (a Farsi expression meaning "climb down from
the Devil's donkey". I bet a lot of you didn't know the Devil had a
donkey. Yeah, well, he does. And he gives people a lift from time to
time). Influences take SHEYTOONS through The Avett Brothers, Crosby,
Stills & Nash, The Tragically Hip, Crooked Still, Fleet Foxes, Jonny
Cash and all the way back round again to a folk-rock sound all of their
own. With a belief in the simplicity of music, and a penchant for vocal
harmony, the band settled into a groove quickly and hope to be
releasing some studio work in the coming months.
Regulars Ramin and Hadley are joined by the following (not always at the same time); on vocals ROSALIE CRAIG, on fiddle JESS MURPHY, on bass NICK PINI, on keys TOM DEERING, on banjo JOE HUBY, on drums GRAEME FOX, on banjo HARRY CARGILL, on keys DAN WILKINSON and on fiddle SONYA CULLINGFORD.
